Eugene raised cotton all of his life, and began breeding pigs later in life. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the harmonica, and loved to play Happy Birthday to the delight of everyone. He heard that the Navy would take anyone, so he enlisted. The Navy kept him for two weeks, before discharging him due to his disabilities. Survivors include his two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Sharon Allen of Mineral Wells, and Tim and Kandee Allen of Lufkin; his daughter and son-in-law, Pat Russell and Bob Gersten of Fort Worth; two sisters Evonne Scarbrough and Wanda Brown of Midland; grandchildren, Chris and Jeana Allen, Tracy and Daniel Jones, Jeff Russell, Jennifer Lokie, Ryan Allen, and Jenn and John Averill; eight great grandchildren, Wyatt and Zachary Allen, Everly and Parker Jones, Lance and Lana Lokie, and Bailey Grace and John Monta Averill; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Saint Joseph Catholic Church
