The Fisher County Historical Commission was delighted with a surprise guest speaker, Mary Mahaffey. Mrs. Mahaffey from the Fisher County Food Bank presented a short program and answered many questions about the Food Bank, which was started by churches and concerned citizens of Fisher County in the 1980’s along with a Clothes Closet in Roby. The Food Pantry is kept open by donations from groups, businesses and individuals. All monies earned at the Clothes Closet go to buy commodities for the Food Bank. The Food Bank and Clothes Closet are staffed with unpaid volunteers.

The food bank does buy some of their food from the Abilene Food Bank and Thriftway (at cost) in Rotan. Food drives are another good source for the food bank, but they have slowed significantly in past months.
