New Coffee Shop Hopes to Help Brew a Better Community

Although the owners Samantha and Garreth Pipes had a soft opening last week, the new coffee shop, the Stomping Grounds, located in the heart of Rotan’s downtown Main Street, will officially have its grand opening on Thursday. The business is different than most in town, as it is the only non-profit store around. Although the Pipes’ own the building and are the driving force behind the establishment, outside of the building lease—which only goes to cover the cost of the building— they receive no other payment. They accept no paycheck and no share of the profits.

“The only thing we take from this is the pleasure of serving others,” said Samantha. The idea started a few years ago when Samantha and her sister, Alice—who lives in the equally small town of Throckmorton— began talking about wanting to do something to help build their respective communities.
