Staffing problems cause jail closure

From the closing of the decaying 1928 jail to the construction of the law enforcement center that took its place just two years ago, Fisher County officials have faced one obstacle after another. From the budget shortfalls, failed jail inspection, and sheriff’s resignation of last year, to this year’s indicted employees, staffing shortages, and temporary—but ongoing—jail closure, the facility continues raising tough questions that have no simple answers.

While the jail has created numerous issues for the county to navigate since opening its doors in the summer of 2016, none has been more persistent than maintaining the necessary staff to operate the facility.
