Stonewall hospital to make house calls?

In the wake of nearby home health providers closing their doors, Stonewall Memorial Hospital Administrator Andy Kolb discussed expanding the district’s services to include home health and hospice services. The board unanimously agreed with the possibility of filling the service void and gave Kolb the green light to present an official proposal.

When Accolade was bought out by a Lubbock-based company, it was announced they would be closing Accolade’s satellite office in Jayton. The decision leaves Encompass — located in Haskell — the nearest home health service provider.

Stonewall’s COO Billie Carter said if the SMH District was ever going to branch into the home health service side of the industry, this would be a good time to do so. Kolb said he talked with the district’s auditors at BKD, who agreed, recommending the district consider a hospice care service as well.

This isn’t the first time SMH has expanded services to fill an industry void. Radiology technicians proposed an idea for the hospital to outfit a van with the necessary equipment to provide mobile ultrasound services to the surrounding hospital districts, which kicked off last year and has been well received by neighboring facilities. The program continues to make a substantial profit.
