Fisher County closes road and opens controversy

The Fisher County Commissioners met Monday, where they unanimously voted in favor of closing County Road 250. The court, however, tabled voting on an interlocal agreement for the Multi-county Court at Law, after learning Fisher County never approved the resolution to join the court in 2011.

The court nevertheless went on to appoint Commissioners Gordon Pippin and Preston Martin as Fisher County representatives to the multi-county court’s committee that will oversee the next few stages of the process.

Last week, commissioners — along with judges and department heads — from Fisher, Mitchell, and Nolan counties met to discuss the multi-county court’s funding structures for the shared services and each county’s contribution. If an agreement could not be reached, potential legislation could divide the payments based on each county’s population.
