Water tower repair unavoidable for Rotan

Rotan Director of Public Works Rodney Denton presented the city council with an update on Rotan proper’s water distribution system last week. He also warned that the city’s water storage system was in desperate need of repair and suggested making the repairs in stages.

The larger of Rotan’s water towers was installed in the early 1960s. The smaller tank that stands adjacent to the Rotan ISD campuses dates back to the late 1920s and can be seen prominently in some of the earliest photographs of the community.

Denton said despite its age, the older tower is in better structural condition. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality recently inspected each of the city’s water storage tanks, and Denton said there would be issues requiring attention sooner rather than later.

He said it has been about 10 years since the last time the tanks were refurbished. Each tower would be high-pressure blasted inside and out, have any damaged areas repaired, and repainted.
