Roby CISD secondgrader, Gunner Green represented his school, community, and helped raise awareness for visually impaired people as he joined with peers to participate in Abilene’s White Cane Day earlier this week.

White Cane Day is an annual day by proclamation of the President of the United States to help educate the world about blindness and honor the contributions of those who have worked to bring awareness and equality to the visually impaired.

Gunner used his white cane to walk from the Methodist church to First Baptist Church in Abilene with Abilene Mayor Anthony Williams, Abilene Fire Chief Cande Flores, and several blind peers, about a mile away. Williams and Flores were blindfolded. The officials said they were relieved to reach their destination and take the blindfold off.
