Rotan Board President resigns

In a meeting that was otherwise full of positive news, Rotan ISD Board President Guy Nelson tendered his resignation last week, citing that despite the achievements the district has reached in academics and financial stabilization during his term, he has failed to meet his constituents’ expectations.

In the final minutes before adjourning Rotan ISD’s November 11 meeting, Nelson gave a statement — which can be read in its entirety on page 4 — officially resigning his seat on the board. In the statement, he referenced a number of points of controversy in recent months, and how the outcome of those events have made it clear that fulfilling the wishes of those who elected him to office would not be possible.

Nelson said his constituents wanted to see change within the district starting at the top and mentioned the September meeting, where the board voted to grant a 15% salary increase to the superintendent’s annual salary. Nelson pointed out the fact that the solitary vote against that decision was his own.
