John William Gholson, 69, of Giddings, Texas was called home to be with his Lord on Sunday, December 22, 2019. John was born in Atwood, Kansas on July 6, 1950, the son of Wilburn Ralph “Bo” and Ethel Christine (Sandlin) Gholson. He married Sherrill Lynn Dockins on May 31, 1969 in Hamlin, Texas. John was a chief/project inspector in the oil and gas industry and worked on numerous jobs all over the United States. In all of his travels, he met so many people and touched so many lives. He was an inspiration and a mentor to all of his inspectors.

John passed away the morning of Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in College Station, Texas.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Bo and Chris Gholson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Virgil Dockins and Connie Dishman Cummings Dockins; sister, Clara Jane Gholson Yarborough; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Don Dockins and Kenneth Edward Dockins; sister-in-law, Betty Cummings, and two nephews, Cody Woodard and Shannon Woodard.

John is survived by his wife, Sherrill Gholson of Giddings, Texas; only son, Michael and Kristy Gholson of Giddings, Texas; five grandchildren, Heather Gholson of Bryan, Texas, Zachary Gholson of Bryan, Texas, A1C Chase Gholson who is serving in the United States Air Force and stationed in Misawa, Japan and his wife Delaney Gholson, Morgan Garza of Navasota, Texas, and BJ Garza of Bryan, Texas; three brothers-in-law, Russell Yarborough of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Wes Cummings of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Rick and Vee Dockins of Natalia, Texas; one sister-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Woodard of Crowell, Texas, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with John’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a cancer research organization of one’s choice, Giddings Breakfast Lions Club, P.O. Box 418, Giddings, Texas 78942, or to the charity of one’s choice.
