Let the 2020 graduation ceremony planning begin

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, along with Gov. Abbott, announced Tuesday the approval of some options for school districts to conduct graduation and end-of-year promotions, as well as providing some guidance for managing those ceremonies. While local districts have not made any official decisions, plans for how schools are looking to host graduations are currently being discussed.

While the option for hosting graduations via zoom has been approved for some time, Morath has been working with the Governor’s strike force to reopen Texas for weeks on expanding those options, especially for larger school districts. “Imagine 5000 people on a zoom call,” said Morath.

“Education, as an endeavor for high school students, is something that they have spent 13 years of their lives on with educators pouring love and skill into them over the course of their educational career. It is important that we honor that achievement as they begin to make a transition into the next phase of life,” said Morath.
