First positive case of COVID-19 reported in Fisher Co.

Fisher County Hospital was notified Tuesday that a Fisher County resident had tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first positive case in the county, and the individual has been reported to have a limited travel history. There is only one other household contact, who is currently in self-isolation and awaiting test results at this time.

Hendrick Medical Center notified the Sweetwater Nolan County Health Department on May 12 of the positive Fisher County case. The patient is an 87-year-old man whose only travel history was for doctor visits in Taylor County. Health department officials said that the physician’s clinic has been notified.

As of May 12, were more than 2,600 tests conducted in Taylor County, resulting in 210 positive cases. There were six reported deaths, with four patients hospitalized. 184 Taylor County patients had recovered from the virus.Fisher County had conducted 34 tests locally, returning 30 negative results with four still pending. The Texas National Guard also conducted 15 tests last week... in Fisher County and eight tests in Stonewall County in efforts to collect as much data as possible about the virus’ spread. The results of those tests were not available at the time of publication.
