Aspermont EDC/IDC distributes relief funding to community businesses

The Aspermont Economic and Industrial Development corporations reported they dispersed $12,000 in May to Stonewall County businesses through its COVID-19 Business/Job Retention Grant Application, providing much-needed assistance to almost all business owners that submitted applications.

The program began after Stonewall County Judge Ronnie Moorhead met with EDC/IDC officials shortly after executive orders began limiting business operations. Moorhead expressed concerns with how several businesses would be affected by restrictions and others would be forced to temporarily close.

By the end of March, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued executive orders that along with reducing the size of social gatherings, also effectively shut down all non-essential businesses — affecting local hair salons, barbershops, floral shops, etc. and regulated restaurants to curbside services.
