Betty Sue (Kidd) Steele

Betty Sue (Kidd) Steele, age 82, of Sweetwater passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at her home in Fisher County, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Judy Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. A family and friend’s visitation will be Monday from 5:30-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Dwalyn Smith, Aaron Smith, Kenny Kidd, Teddy Kidd, Stephen F. Smith II and Dan Casbeer. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen F. Smith, John Glenn Kidd, Steven Cearley, Don Flint and Rusty Hall. Betty was born March 15, 1937 at Capitola, Texas to the late Bennie and Mary Clair (McCain) Kidd. She attended school at Hobbs and Sweetwater. She married L.C. “Corkey” Steele October 24, 1953 in Sweetwater. She and Corkey lived in Louisiana about 15 years moving back to Sweetwater in 1976.

“Lucy” Wilburn Sherrill

Lucille “Lucy” Wilburn Sherrill, 80, of Sweetwater passed away peacefully Thursday, December 5th in Sweetwater, Texas. Funeral Services will be Monday, December 9th at 2:00 pm at Bethel Assembly Church with Rev. Carter Edmonson officiating. Interment will follow at Roby Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday from 6:00-7:30 pm at the McCoy Funeral Home. Lucille was born October 20, 1939 in Rotan, Texas to the late Lealon and Florence Wilburn. She graduated from Roby High School in 1957. She married James Sherrill in Sweetwater, Texas on July 3, 1970. Lucille was an avid Sweetwater Mustang fan for over 50 years. She served as Office Manager to various Sweetwater businesses before retiring as a homemaker. She belonged to several Bridge clubs and continued to play for more than 30 years. Lucille loved her time with family, friends, traveling, and was an expert seamstress.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 5:00 pm Sunday at the Roby Funeral Chapel directly west of the courthouse, 111 S. Concho Street in Roby.

Betty Carter journeyed from this life to her heavenly home on November 17, 2019. A service to celebrate her life will be Thursday, November 21, 2019, 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Rotan, Texas. Family visitation will be Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 6:00-7:00 PM at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.

Betty Joyce Kiker was born August 11, 1928 in Bronte, Texas. Her parents were Orbie Sparks Kiker and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Phillips Kiker. She had one brother, Orbie Ray Kiker, who was four years older than her. The family moved to Rotan in the summer of 1937 where her dad and mother worked at the City Bakery. In the latter part of 1944, her dad bought John’s Hamburger Place and ran it for about a year and a half, after which time he sold it and then purchased the bakery. Betty found her love for cooking and serving others at an early age while helping her family in their businesses.

ROTAN – Viola Brazee, 97, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at her home in Hobbs, Texas. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Hobbs Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday evening form 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born August 25, 1922, in Fisher County, Texas.

Viola was the daughter of the late A.D. and Jewel (Chism) Ratliff. She married William Owen Brazee on December 24, 1938, in Roby. They lived on the Sammy Baugh Ranch from 1942-1953, before moving to King County in 1953-1994 where they lived and worked for the Springer Ranch.

Viola cooked daily meals for the ranch hands. She enjoyed sewing for the public and making western shirts for her family. Viola was a very gifted painter. She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.

William G. (Bubba) Edwards Sr., 79, passed away November 11, 2019, in Jayton. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 14, 2019, in Jayton Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel.

Born November 16, 1939, in Rotan, TX to the late Roy Franklin and Zula Idell (Bunch) Edwards.

He graduated from Rotan High School in 1958 and attended various colleges on a baseball scholarship before being drafted by the New York Yankees in 1961. He married the love of his life Linda Jowers on July 6, 1968, in Aspermont.

Bubba was a Godly man and took time out to help a fellow man in need. He worked for ExxonMobil for 20 years before his retirement. Bubba was an avid sports fan and enjoyed a good baseball game.

Survivors include his mother Grable, Martinez; a daughter Michelle Martinez, and a son Raul Martinez Jr. and wife Terra of Knox City. His grandchildren Kirstie, Kelsey, Kambrie, and Justin Cole Shelley of Rotan. Elizabeth, Gabriella, and Aryanna Martinez of Knox City. Sisters Lydia (Benjamin) Torres, Rosemary (Ernesto) Carreno, Linda Sosa, Vicky Martinez, Yolanda Timmons.

Wife Mary and her children Adrian, Yvette, Dominic, Oliver, and Audrey. Their children Cameron, Stonie, Nicholas, Landon, Carley, Colbey, Cage, and Cutter.

Jackie Wayne Etheredge 84, lifetime Fisher County resident, passed away October 19, 2019 in Abilene Texas. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday October 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Rotan, Texas with Pastor John Erwin officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Hobbs Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home of Rotan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

Jackie was born in a little farm house, in Fisher County to Sam and Roxie Etheredge on March 4, 1935. He graduated from Hobbs high school in 1953, and attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Texas A&M ROTC. Jackie married the love of his life, LaNelle Wilburn on November 6, 1955.

Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, October 28, 2019, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Born October 30, 1940 in Rotan, Texas, Francis was the daughter of the late Shorty and Mary Denniston. Francis married Donald Berry Ruark July 11, 1957. She was a member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church. Francis was a friend to everyone she met. She liked to crochet, play internet games, watch WWE and classic westerns. She was everyone’s “Mammaw”.
