Loie Stevens

Loie Stevens 81, passed from this life, April 16, 2017. He was a farmer, raised cattle and worked at national gypsum for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife Nadene Stevens. He leaves behind one daughter Teresa Seaton and her husband Tim Seaton, and one son Kevin Stevens and his wife April Stevens. Two grand daughters Amy and Ana and a grandson Josh Stevens. Two great grandsons Joshua Stevens and Dustin Stevens. Rest in peace daddy

April 11, 1941 — May 2, 2017

Ernest Lee Bickerstaff, age 76, of Fisher County, TX, passed away on May 2, 2017 in Lubbock, TX after a tough battle with cancer. Born April 11, 1941 to Clifton F. and Eda Bickerstaff, in Rotan, TX, he had resided near Sweetwater since 1962.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00pm, First United Methodist Church in Rotan, TX. The Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan will handle arrangements, but no prior viewing is planned. Burial will follow at the Rotan (Belvieu) Cemetery.

Although he wanted to remain on this earth a bit longer, he graciously said “it’s just one of them things” while describing his situation in the past few weeks. In classic Ernest style, he also told his caregivers “Sugar, I’m sorry to be so much trouble”.

Elsa Rodriguez Yanez, 57 of Rotan, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017, in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Rotan. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery in Rotan. A prayer service will be held at 7:00pm, Monday, May 1, 2017, at the Weathersbee- Ray Funeral Home Chapel in Rotan.

Elsa was born May 13, 1959, in Rotan, to Isaias and Alicia Rodriguez. She lived in Rotan for the majority of her life. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rotan and also attended the Four Square Church often. Elsa worked in healthcare. She attended TSTC of nursing where she received her LVN. Elsa worked as a traveling nurse for many years. She loved her job, but family was the biggest part of her life. She was kind and loving. She especially loved kids as they seemed to always bring out the nurse in her.

Elsa was preceded in death by her son, Phillip Yanez.

William Jerry McCright

Jerry McCright, age 76, of Vega, Texas (formally of Roby) died at his home on Sat. April 22, 2017. Born Nov. 20, 1940 in Fisher County, 2 miles north of Royston on the family farm. He was the son of William and Amaleeta (Willhite) McCright.

Jerry attended and graduated from McCaulley High School in 1959. He then went to work for the REA (now Big Country Electric) climbing poles. On Sept. 1, 1960, Jerry married Charlene Berry in Royston.

In 1978 they moved to Gallup, N.M. where Jerry worked until his retirement to Vega in 1990. He was a farmer, rancher, electrician and carpenter during his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Nadene Stevens and Sherrie Rodgers and nephew Toney Mitchell.

Alford Lee Carey

November 28, 1933 — April 14, 2017

Alford Lee Carey, age 83 of Roby,Texas died at his home Friday, April 14, 2017. Born November 28, 1933 in Colorado City, Texas he was the son of the late Elsa T. Carey and Dorothy Estelle Bunch Carey. He lived most of his life in the Roby-Rotan area. Alford graduated Rotan High School in 1952.

Alford was the owner and operator of the Texaco Wholesale and Dal Paso Auto Supply in Roby. He later was employed by TDCJ in Snyder.

Alford married Bobbie Nell Simmons in 1953. They had three children. In December, 1987, he married Mert McAnear.

A graveside service was held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Roby cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Bobbie Carey, a brother, Harold Carey and a sister, Margie Gallagher.

Mitchell Templeton

Mitchell Templeton, 77, of Hobbs passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Big Spring. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, April 7, 2017, in Hobbs Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at Weathersbee- Ray Funeral Home, in Rotan.

Mitchell Dwain Templeton was born January 4, 1940, in Rotan, to Leslie and Ollie Daisy (Patrick) Templeton. He and his family moved to Hobbs in 1941. Mitchell is a graduate of Hobbs High School. He bravely served his country when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and was active until 1963. Mitchell worked as a farmer for a large part of his life; farming mostly around the Hobbs area. Mitchell was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.

Patsy Hamric May 10, 1931 — February 28, 2017

Patsy Hamric, 85, of Rotan, passed away Tuesday, February, 28, 2017, in Dallas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church of Rotan. Dot Harris will officiate the services. The services are under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Patsy Yvonne (Maberry) Hamric was born May 10, 1931, on the Maberry Ranch, south of McCaulley, Texas, to Luther Kyle and Addie Louise (Gray) Maberry. She graduated from McCaulley High School as valedictorian before going on to receive her BA degree in English from McMurry University in 1952 and her Master’s Degree in Counseling from Hardin-Simmons University. She also did post-graduate work at Texas Tech University. Patsy married the love of her life, Rudolph V. “Rudy” Hamric on April 19, 1957 in McCaulley. She taught school at Albany, Hamlin, Lubbock, Austin, and Rotan ISD. Patsy was the Fisher County Coop.
