Early Sunday morning, February 3, Milton Lewis Chapman went to be with his LORD and Savior.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6 at First Baptist Church in Bryan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be held at Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Born in San Saba, Texas on June 5, 1932 to George W. and Lois Chapman, he was the youngest of four siblings. Proud of his ancestry, Milton’s family came to Texas settling in the east part of the state. Chapman, Texas, now known as Blessing Hill, is eight miles east of Henderson.

Ty West

In Loving Memory

Ty Justin West, 39, passed away March 2, 2019. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Pickwick-McAdams Cemetery in Palo Pinto County. Visitation will be 5 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.

Born November 22, 1979, Ty was the son of Gary and Tempie West. He graduated from Roby High School in 1998. Ty loved being a cowboy and worked on numerous ranches, sale barns and was currently working at Scherwitz Farms. He loved working in the garden and supplying his neighbors with produce. He never failed to bring positive energy during hard times. Ty had an infectious sense of humor no matter the circumstances. He was always willing to help anyone in need of a hand or just a big old hug.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Delbert and Ruby Bridges and Ike and Alfa West; aunts, Baby Sister, Thelma Bridges Kimbrell, and Evelyn Musgrave.

Jack C. Cox

Jack C. Cox, 83, of Roby, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at his home in Roby. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Roby. Burial will follow in Roby Cemetery.

Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Born October 6, 1935 in Anson, Texas. He was the oldest of five children. He joined the Navy from 1954 till 1958. He received the National Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.

He married Lonnie Delona McFaul on October 11, 1960. They raised two children. He worked at TEXDOT for many years. Jack enjoyed life. He loved all his family and friends and will truly never be forgotten.

Eugene Almanza, was born in Rotan, Texas to Bacilio & Petra Almanza on July 8, 1943 & left us to be with the Lord on February 13, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, & his brothers Julio & Hipolito Almanza. He is survived by his sisters Cecilia (Almanza) & Antonio Rocha, & Delores (Almanza) & Vicente Ortiz; his 5 children & their spouses; Joyce (Almanza) & Joe DeLaCruz, Richard & Rene Almanza, Patricia & Angie Almanza, Peter & Melissa Almanza, & Jennifer Almanza; his 18 grandchildren, his 14 great-grandchildren, & numerous nieces & nephews in Texas.

Wayne Nichols, 52, of Rotan, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 in Rotan. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery.

Richard Wayne Nichols was born July 9, 1966 in Hamlin, Texas to Harold Loyd Nichols and Kathleen Elrod Bennett.

Wayne was preceded in death by his grandparents; a nephew, Blake Nichols; uncles, James Allen, Jim Bilbo, and A.L. Elrod and Aunt, Erline Elrod.

Wayne is survived by his father, Loyd Nichols; mother, Kathleen Bennett; sons, J.C. Nichols and Joseph Tamez; brothers, Dean Nichols and Ray Nichols; nieces, Codi Haigood, Kourtney Baker, Haley Wright, Jessica Sporles and Sarah Sporles; and numerous cousins.

Hamlin- Kelly Godfrey Jeffrey, 56, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 5:30 to 6:30 Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Born January 7, 1963, in Hamlin, Kelly was the daughter of John Ray and Barbara (Smith) Godfrey. She graduated from High School in Iraan. After graduation, Kelly graduated from Western Texas College and obtained her Associate Degree, she furthered her education at Angelo State University and earned Bachelors of Science Degree in education. She coached Cross Country for 9 years in Iraan before coming to Hamlin. This is her 23nd year in Hamlin. Kelly had always been the head coach for the Girls Cross Country Team where she won a State Championship. Her father and brother were both coaches, so it runs in the family.

Parker Barron Wetsel

Parker Barron Wetsel, 95, passed away February 14, 2019. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Roby First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Born February 5, 1924, in Fisher County, Parker was the son of the late Joe Barron and Oscar Mae (Parker) Wetsel. He graduated high school in 1942 and attended Texas A&M at College Station in the summer and fall of 1942. In December of 1942, Parker volunteered in the U.S. Army. On January 6, 1943, he along with a few of his friends loaded a bus at the Texaco Station in Roby and headed to Camp Wolters in Mineral Wells. Parker served our county proudly during WWII. He was an active part of the 487th AAA Battalion, Battery D.

Nita Lafate Posey

Nita Lafate Posey passed away February 5, 2019 at the age of 86. Visitation will be Friday, February 8th at Rotan Church of Christ from 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. with services also there at 2:00 p.m. Nita was born September 16, 1932 in Jones County to Ira Theodore Green and Hattie Louise Holden Green. She graduated from Hamlin High School where she was a cheerleader and an accomplished student. After graduation she worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator for three years.

She married the only love of her life Glenn Harold Posey on September 23, 1953. They made their home on a farm, raising cotton and cattle in the shadow of the Double Mountains in Stonewall County. They were faithful members of the Rotan Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, raising three daughters: Carol, Gayle, and Connie.

Esmeralda “Esmee” Lopez

February 14, 1958 – February 1, 2019

Esmeralda “Esmee” Lopez Lujan, age 60 of Arlington, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2019. She was born to the late Francisco Lopez and Elvira Garcia Lopez on February 14, 1958. Esmee attended Rotan public schools before moving to Lubbock in 1977 where she earned her cosmetology/beautician license.

In 1978, she moved to Arlington where she pursued her lifetime career as a beautician.

As single parent, she raised her son Jerome, gained daughter-in-law Julie followed by two loving grandchildren, Adrian and Celine whom she adored. She loved family and cherished the time spent with her Mother, siblings and extended family which brought her much joy.

James E Peterson March 31, 1949 – January 24, 2019

James E. Petterson, Jr. 69 of Harlowton died early Thursday morning, January 24th, 2019 in Billings Clinic after a battle with lung cancer. He was born March 31, 1949 in Redwood City, CA the son of James E. and Oma J. (Hahn) Petterson, Sr. The family moved to Aspermont, TX where he received his education graduating from High School in Aspermont in 1967. He then worked with a harvest crew from Texas to Canada until joining the Air Force in 1969. He received his discharge in 1979 and continued on in the Air Force Reserve. He then begins working as a lineman in Wyoming and Montana. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Rosenberg on April 17, 1981. They lived in Harlowton until moving to Whiteman Air Force Base in Johnson County Missouri. He worked on the Minuteman Missiles with the Civil Engineering department as an electrician. He retired in 2012 and in 2016 they moved to Harlowton.
