Linda Sue Adams Carnes April 21, 1944 - May 11, 2018

On May 11, 2018 Linda Sue Adams Carnes departed this Earth to join her beloved husband Clifton Lee Carnes, in God’s kingdom. Linda was born on April 21, 1944 in Mitchell County, Texas. She was the 7th of 11 children born to James “Daddy Bill” Adams and Lenora Feaster Adams. Linda had a servant’s heart and her generosity was felt by many. She had a gift for making those around her feel special. Linda married the love of her life, Mr. Clifton Lee Carnes on June 29, 1964 in Sweetwater, Texas. They would go on to raise both a daughter and a son, and enjoy a 42 year marriage. While Linda raised her children she was actively involved in the PTA, eventually becoming a lifetime member. Linda found true joy in baking and decorating cakes for friends and family, ever missing an opportunity to host a party or help with a wedding. Linda was a founding member of Grace Temple Baptist Church and served as their executive secretary.

Anna Sue Whitman September 1, 1934 - June 29, 2018

Anna Sue Whitman , better known as “Nan”, of Mertzon, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2018. She was 83 years old and was born in Stonewall County on September 1, 1934, to Marvin and Ruby Bilberry. She truly lived a life of service, both in her career as a registered nurse at Abilene State School and in her personal life. Nan is survived by her four children, Kay (Stan) of Mertzon, Mark Whitman of Aspermont, Pam (Joe) Hyde of Dallas, and Ray (Melanie) Whitman of Katy. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Matthew (Ariel) Holcomb, Holly (Drew) Rylander, Caitlin (John) Dressler, Trent Whitman, Meredith (Zach) Williams, Paige (Nathan) Daughety, and Ryan Whitman. Her beloved great-grandchildren include Colton, Bao, Rankin, Finn, Lincoln, and Hazel Grace. In addition to her family, she was loved and adored by her many friends.

Dorthy Jean Soliz, January 3, 1935 - May 26, 2018

Dorothy Jean Soliz, age 83, of Loraine, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 26, 2018, in Colorado City. A graveside service was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Hobbs Cemetery. The services were under the direction of Weathersbee- Ray Funeral Home. Dorothy Jean Soliz was born January 3, 1935, in Fisher County, to Lina Bell Shanks. Dorothy and Martin Soliz married July 10, 1950, in Seymour, TX. Dorothy and Martin owned and operated Martin Grocery Store and Dorothy’s Beauty Shop in Rotan. She retired from Rotan ISD as a secretary. She was a loving mother, sister, Aunt Dot, and a great Bum Bum for all her grandkids and great-grandkids. She is survived by her daughter, Donna K. Soliz Givens, and husband, Mike Givens, of Loraine, TX; one sister, Nelda, of Midland, TX; her grandchildren, Deana Overton of Colorado City, TX, Martin Dee Givens of Highlands, TX, Bryan Soliz of Casper, WY, and Brandi Soliz Danniger of Wausau, WI; and eleven great-grandkids.

Bobby Dean Smith, September 7, 1933 - May 24, 2018

Bobby Dean Smith, 84, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 24, 2018. He always said he wanted to go to sleep and wake up in Heaven, and he did just that. Bobby was born in Fisher County to LaRhue and Ernest Smith on October 7, 1933. He graduated from Rotan High School in 1951, where he met the love of his life, Joyce Ellen (Hargrove) Smith. He went on to wed her November 14, 1953. He was then drafted into the US Army in January of 1954, where he was a communications specialist stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington State. He and Joyce were founding members of Parkland Baptist Church in Parkland, Washington where he was ordained as a deacon. After completing his time serving, Bobby and Joyce came home to Rotan and began to pursue one of the things he loved the most, farming. Bobby and Joyce went on to have three kids, Lee Scott Smith (1958- 2012), Charre Ann Smith, and Jana Beth (Smith) Morales. In 1999, he was stricken with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Sharon Yvonne Overby, May 20, 1942 - May 26, 2018

ROTAN: SHARON YVONNNE OVERBY, 76, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Rotan. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home of Anson. Family visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Rotan. Born May 20, 1942 in Muskogee, OK, Sharon was a daughter of the late Clyde Sims and Marie Sims Kay. She graduated from Hamlin High School and attended San Angelo State University. Sharon married Donald Overby June 19, 1961. Together, they made their home in Rotan and raised two children, Annette and Glen. Donald and Sharon traveled all over Texas taking the kids to rodeos and sporting events. Sharon worked for the Rotan Elementary School from 1975 to 1983. For the last 34 years, she worked for Raford and Lana Hargrove at Hargrove Insurance as a data specialist.
