Andres R. Almanza

Andres R. Almanza, 78, of Rotan went Home Monday, March 25, 2019 in Rotan. A funeral mass will be held at 10am, Thursday, March 28, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rotan; burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery. Visitation and rosary services will be held from 6-8pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel; the rosary reading will begin at 6pm.

Andres R. Almanza was born March 8, 1941 in Rotan, TX to Serapio and Otila (Ramon) Almanza. He was a lifelong resident of Rotan and worked many years as a loyal employee of the City of Rotan. Andres enjoyed sitting outside talking and laughing with his friends and family and working in his garden. He was also a collector of many things; he believed everything could be used for something. Andres was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him and loved him.

Billie Arlene Gruben-Brown

Billie Arlene Gruben Brown passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 following a brief illness.

Billie was born October 2, 1929 to Arlon and Verona Cross in the Cross Roads community of Fisher County, Texas. She attended Roby schools, graduating from Roby High School in 1947. As a student, Billie was voted both Football and FFA Sweetheart.

Billie was married to Glen Gruben 47 years until his death in 1994. They made their home and raised their family in the Cross Roads community where her life centered around her beloved place of worship, Cross Roads Baptist Church. Billie first attended Cross Roads during her first week of life and remained a faithful and active member until health issues prevented her attendance. She was very active in all of her children’s activities as a Sunday School teacher at church and a room parent at school.

Odessa, Tx - Sammy Lee Gonzales, 60, died peacefully March 12, 2019 at 8:45 pm after a long illness with Parkinson’s Disease at Sienna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Odessa, Texas. Sammy was born October 14, 1958 to Louis and Pauline Gonzales.

Sammy was survived by his father, Louis Gonzales, Brothers, Robert and Joe Gonzales, Grandchildren, Christopher Elias Jr, Cheyenne Lozano, Danika Elias, and Zander Elias. His great grandchild Catalina Nevaeh Lozano, Niece Kristy Gonzales, April Gonzales. Nephew Robert Gonzales Jr., Matthew Gonzales, great Nephews, Jagger Jace Gonzales, Jacob Anthony Garcia. And great Niece Kelsey Renee Cardenas. Close cousins were Deacon Eddie Gonzalez, Ronnie Medrano. Uncles, Ramon Medrano, Tony Gonzalez, Aunts, Ruth Gonzalez, Janie Moreno, Susie Martinez.

Jose Francisco (Joe Frank) Garcia, born June 26, 1944 in Snyder, Texas to Apolonio (Paul) and Vera Lou(Ashton) Garcia, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the age of

74. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 15 th at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin, TX. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 16 th at the Hamlin funeral home with a procession following to the Girard Cemetery in Kent County, Texas.

Raised in Rotan, Texas, he graduated from Rotan High School in 1963. Following a stroke suffered after a day filled with friends and cold beer, Joe fought for over a month like those who knew him might expect.

Bettie Murlene Rivers

Bettie Murlene Rivers, cherished by her family, passed to the kingdom of the Lord on March 11, 2019. Murlene was born October 13, 1938 in the Hobbs, Texas community of Fisher County. Murlene graduated from Rotan High School in 1956 and married Wallace Rae Jeffery in 1957. Murlene worked for Sallie Mae and retired from Panhandle Plains Student Loan Center in 1997.

Murlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Alecia D’Anne Jeffery McNatt, by her parents, Charles Elyet Rivers and Lova Lee Rivers and sister, Billie Jean Flake.

She is survived by her son Avret David Jeffery, her granddaughters LaSandra Nicole Wilkinson and Kendl Rae McNatt, her great grandson Ryder Cantrell, her great granddaughter Corbin Upthegrove, her brothers Bobby Chester Rivers and Charles Leroy Rivers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Murlene adored her family and enjoyed playing cards and bingo with friends.

Early Sunday morning, February 3, Milton Lewis Chapman went to be with his LORD and Savior.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6 at First Baptist Church in Bryan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be held at Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Born in San Saba, Texas on June 5, 1932 to George W. and Lois Chapman, he was the youngest of four siblings. Proud of his ancestry, Milton’s family came to Texas settling in the east part of the state. Chapman, Texas, now known as Blessing Hill, is eight miles east of Henderson.

Ty Justin West, 39, passed away March 2, 2019. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the Pickwick-McAdams Cemetery in Palo Pinto County. Visitation will be 5 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan.

Born November 22, 1979, Ty was the son of Gary and Tempie West. He graduated from Roby High School in 1998. Ty loved being a cowboy and worked on numerous ranches, sale barns and was currently working at Scherwitz Farms. He loved working in the garden and supplying his neighbors with produce. He never failed to bring positive energy during hard times. Ty had an infectious sense of humor no matter the circumstances. He was always willing to help anyone in need of a hand or just a big old hug.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Delbert and Ruby Bridges and Ike and Alfa West; aunts, Baby Sister, Thelma Bridges Kimbrell, and Evelyn Musgrave.

Jack C. Cox, 83, of Roby, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at his home in Roby. Visitation will be on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, February 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Roby. Burial will follow in Roby Cemetery.

Jack was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Born October 6, 1935 in Anson, Texas. He was the oldest of five children. He joined the Navy from 1954 till 1958. He received the National Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal and a National Defense Service Medal.

He married Lonnie Delona McFaul on October 11, 1960. They raised two children. He worked at TEXDOT for many years. Jack enjoyed life. He loved all his family and friends and will truly never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, & his brothers Julio & Hipolito Almanza. He is survived by his sisters Cecilia (Almanza) & Antonio Rocha, & Delores (Almanza) & Vicente Ortiz; his 5 children & their spouses; Joyce (Almanza) & Joe DeLaCruz, Richard & Rene Almanza, Patricia & Angie Almanza, Peter & Melissa Almanza, & Jennifer Almanza; his 18 grandchildren, his 14 great-grandchildren, & numerous nieces & nephews in Texas.

Wayne Nichols, 52, of Rotan, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 in Rotan. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery.

Richard Wayne Nichols was born July 9, 1966 in Hamlin, Texas to Harold Loyd Nichols and Kathleen Elrod Bennett.

Wayne was preceded in death by his grandparents; a nephew, Blake Nichols; uncles, James Allen, Jim Bilbo, and A.L. Elrod and Aunt, Erline Elrod.

Wayne is survived by his father, Loyd Nichols; mother, Kathleen Bennett; sons, J.C. Nichols and Joseph Tamez; brothers, Dean Nichols and Ray Nichols; nieces, Codi Haigood, Kourtney Baker, Haley Wright, Jessica Sporles and Sarah Sporles; and numerous cousins.
