Lady Hammers season comes to an end

Despite being favored to win, the Rotan Lady Yel-lowhammers suffered a devastating loss at Saturday’s Cardinals 17-8.

The Cardinals were quick to take a 4-0 lead, only for the Hammers to fight back tying the game in the bottom fifth and added another three in the sixth to soar past the Lady Hammers.

Although repeated attempts to contact Rotan’s head Abilene Reporter News that the team had a hard time taking hits off of the Cardinals ace Morgan Kariainen and that Saturday Hermleigh was the better team.

First Annual "Fam Jam" in Jayton

The Jayton Lions Club hosted a first annual “Fam Jam” at the Credit Lake Park for a fundraiser over the weekend. Many community members joined the Lions Club members for an afternoon of food, games, and music. Nelson Coulter, Stephen Reynolds, and Slade Coulter sang for entertainment. Horseshoe and volleyball tournaments were held for all ages to join. A BBQ sack lunch was prepared by members and sold for $5 per bag

Regional 1 & 2 Track Meets

The Double Mountain track season will culminate with next week’s state championship meet as nine student athletes clinched their appearance after last weekend’s regional events.

Hallie Edmondson of Roby will move on after bringing home second place in the 200-meter dash, first in long jump, second in the 4x400 relay, and third in the 4x100 relay. Currently, Edmondson is ranked second in the state in the 200-meter dash with her fastest time of the season at 25.96.

Lady Hammers take Regional Quarterfinal Championship!

Eight teams will continue on to the Regional Semifinals of which are the Rotan Lady Yellowhammers.

A combination of solid team fielding and strong pitching by sophomore Ryleigh Denton— who pitched 7 innings—lead the Hammers to an 11-0 victory over the Northside Indians Tuesday night.

Lady Hammers District Champs!

The Yellowhammer softball team defeated the Hermleigh Cardinals 12-5 Friday to claim the district championship title.

With only one loss, the Hammer’s finished the district season 7-1.

Rotan first introduced softball to the athletic program in 2010- 2011, with Abrah Martinez, 2013 graduate, throwing the first pitch on the newly built field February 22, 2011.
