The Aspermont Hornets and Lady Hornets hosted a tournament last weekend (12/12-12/14) and invited teams from Crowell, Newcastle, Cross Plains, Rotan, Paducah, Knox City, and Guthrie. Both teams went to the championship game and came out with the 2nd place title.

In Game 1, the Hornets were paired up with the Crowell Wildats and won the first bracket with a final score of 49-35. Scorers were: Rowdy Bradley 23 pts, Jaime Fernandez 12 pts, Miguel Rojas 11 pts, Angel Cavazos 3 pts, and Kobe Hodges 2 pts.

In Game 2, the Hornets met with the Cross Plains Buffaloes in the second winning bracket. This game proved easier for the swarm and they won 60-37. Scorers were: Rowdy Bradley 21 pts, Kobe Hodges 14 pts, Miguel Rojas 11 pts, Jaime Fernandez 7 pts, Angel Cavazos 3 pts, Chris Mendez 2 pts, and Dylan McLaury 2 pts.

The Lady Hammers final preparation for District play: On December 12-14, the Lady Hammers participated in the Aspermont Tournament. I was informed that the team defeated Paduach 44-20 on December 12 and lost a close game to Guthrie by the score of 34-37. The team played at 3:30 PM (December 14) against the Lady Buffs of Cross Plains, to determine which team would win third place in the Tournament. It was a low scoring game, as the Lady Hammers trailed 13-25 at the end of the second period. At this point the team managed (only) two offensive rebounds against a very aggressive team…Brooklyn McArthur grabbed one rebound in the first period and Zoe Flores grabbed one in the second period. Flores, hustle is extraordinary! She faces different challenges on the court, but she accepts it. Her attitude (her extraordinary effort) is a signature of ‘A Champion’ on the court. The Lady Hammers started the third period with a 4-0 run to close the gap (17-25) with 5:59 remaining in this period.
