Jayton Jaybirds

One the boy’s side of the court, the Jaybirds played against Crowell in Hamlin Tuesday night. Jayton took on an early lead that grew throughout the game.

Jayton Jaybirds are in it to win it!

The Jayton basketball program is succeeding with both boys and girls varsity teams, as the Jaybirds recently became Bi-District champions, and the girls are now in the Regional Quarter Finals champions.

The Lady Jays played in O’Donnell Monday night against the Whitharell Panthers. Starting out with

a strong offense, Jayton girls made the first bucket of the night. This kicked off a nail-biting game of difficult basketball.

Aspermont Hornets & Roby Lions share District Tri-Champion Title with Lueders Avoca

The Roby Lions, Aspermont Hornets, and Lueders- Avoca Raiders ended the district season in a three-way tie Tuesday night after each team finished with a 7-3 record.

Wednesday, the three teams flipped a coin to determine playoff seeding, after deciding against a tournament tiebreaker. Roby took the first place spot, Aspermont second, and Lueder-Avoca third. All three teams will receive a district champion trophy.

Jayton games have opposite endings

In Guthrie on Friday the Lady Jays played Benjamin girls while the Jaybirds played Guthrie boys. These games did not have the same turn out unfortunately.

The Lady Jays kept up with the Benjamin varsity girls in the first quarter well. Playing strong defense in the beginning of the quarter but ultimately letting Benjamin have the lead 8-11

The second and third quarters were a slow back and forth game. Every few minutes the Lady Jays made extraordinary moves and would sink a three pointer.

Lady Lions clinch district championship

The Varsity girls followed the J.V. boys and defeated the Lady Hammers 67-32. Two Lady Lions were in double figures; led by Emily Branson with a double double consisting of 17 points and 10 rebounds. The other Lady Lion in double figures was Kaylee Weaver with 11 points. The Lady Lions were ahead 18-11 at the end of the first period and up 39-18 at the half. They outscored the Lady Hammers 17-8 in the third period and 11-6 in the fourth. Stats: Emily Branson 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, Kaylee Weaver 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, Kolbi Helm 9 points, 4 steals, Alexis Rios 7 points, 2 assists, Emilea Cole 7 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, Hallie Edmonson 7 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 steals, Paige Schromber 6 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, Peyton Shipp 2 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, Hope Lambert 1 point, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals.

Lady Jays win the District Championship

Friday night at the Jayton gym was rowdy and loud as both sides of fans cheered for their home teams. Both Jayton teams were victorious and won by by over 25 points.

The Lady Jays became district champions after the win against Motley County 51-24. In a back and forth match the first quarter was fast and furious. Many fouls were called for both teams in the first half.

Coach Blankenship called time out to sit the girls down and remind them that communication and teamwork is the key to success.

Lady Lions 7-0 in district

The Lady Lions began the second round of district games going to Rule to play the Lady Cats. The Lady’s won the game 70-21. They jumped out to a quick lead and were up 20-2 at the end of the first period and 39-6 at half time. They would score 14 more in the third period to lead 53-12 and would finish the game 70-21.Three Lady Lions were in double figures with Hallie Edmonson leading the way with 25. Kolbi Helm scored 12 and Kaylee Weaver 11. A win and a loss for Jayton

Jayton varsity teams played against Spur last Friday with surprising results compared to the last time Jayton met up with Spur.

The Lady Jays battled I tout with the Spurettes sprinting back and forth fighting for the ball. Three minutes into the first quarter the Lady Jays finally scored the first basket.

Denton led the team with 17 points; Bowen led the team with 9 rebounds; Denton led the team with 4 assists; Corn led the team with 4 steals…complete stats as follows: Denton-17 pts, 5 RBS, 4 assists, and 1 steal; Corn-14 pts, 4 steals, 3 RBS, and 2 assists; Bowen-12 pts, 9 RBS, 2 steals, and 1 assist; Dunn-7 pts, 4 RBS, 3 assists, and 1 steal; Garza-4 pts, 3 RBS, and 3 steals; Gentry-2 pts and 3 RBS; Hurt-2 pts and 1 RB; Ballard-1 point 5 RBS, and 3 steals; Anderle-1 RB; Harris received playing time.

Hornets take back-to-back wins

Blake Riley scored 17 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Hornets in a one-point victory over the Rotan Yellowhammers Friday night.

Karter Morris added 16 points and came away with 10 rebounds. Rowdy Bradley pitched in 12 points, and Brayden Albright pulled 5 rebounds in the 55-54 victory.

The Hornets were quick to establish a 24-21 lead by the half and drove the score to 44-34 lead by the end of the third quarter.
