Bulldogs rain on Hornet Homecoming

The Hornets took an emotional 44-22 loss against the Spur Bulldogs during Aspermont’s biannual homecoming celebration Friday night.

Aspermont began their homecoming festivities Thursday with a bonfire held in the Elementary parting lot, and Friday afternoon, the junior high and high school cheerleaders put on a joint pep rally.

Friday night was cold and wet as the Hornets kicked off the game with the crowning of the 2017 Homecoming Queen, senior Zoe Calamaco.

Jaybirds take down Paint Creek Pirates

Jayton Jaybirds outscore Paint Creek Pirates at the Jaybird Staduim 66-41 Friday night making the Jaybirds record (2-2).

Jayton had much less passing yards than Paint Creek with 164 yards to 235 yards. Contributing to Jaybirds passing yards, #25 Kaden Awe threw 18 yards into the end zone to #15 Pecos Smith for a Jayton touchdown.

Roby Lions bring home another win!

The Roby Lions beat the Baird Bears 40-26 to go 3-0 on the season. The game got a slow start with the first score not coming until 3:02 left in the first quarter. The Lions backed the bears up to their own four yard line; forcing a punt and getting the ball on Baird’s 22 yard line. It took the Lions three plays to turn it in to six points in a quarterback keeper by Kyler Covington. Baird only ran one play from scrimmage before fumbling the ball; with the Lions recovering. The Lions would capitalize on the turnover with another touchdown run by Kyler Covington.

Slow start leads to Yellowhammer a loss over Lady Cats

The Rotan Yellowhammers hosted the Plains Cowgirls Tuesday, where the Lady Cats posted a four-game victory over the Hammers after the Hammers lost Saturday to the Post Lady Lopes in a three-set match.

“We started off game one slow, allowing them four-five point lead,” said Junior Jackie Dunn. “We got ourselves in a rut that we just were able to recover from.”

Lions crown homecoming fanfare with win against Ranger

Roby Homecoming culminated in a 20-8 defeat of the Ranger Bulldogs, in a penalty laden ballgame. The Lions won the toss and deferred to the second half. The opening kickoff was fumbled by Ranger and recovered by Kade Kent for the Lions, at the 35 yard line. A face mask penalty put the Lions 1st and 10 at the 15 yard line; however, the Bulldogs intercepted the Ball, denying the Lions a score. The Bulldogs then took the ball down the field and scored; taking the lead 8-0.

Yellowhammer sink the Pirates 24 - 14

On Friday, September 8th, the Rotan Varsity travelled to Paint Creek in pursuit of their 2nd victory. In the early part of the contest, the Pirates jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with 1 :29 left on the clock. The Yellowhammer offense struggled to score. The Pirates had the momentum and it seemed that the game was slipping away but the Yellowhammer defense stiffened up with 3 :50 left on the clock before halftime.

Aspermont Hornets Take Over Jayton Jaybirds

Aspermont had a great come back Friday, September 8th against the Jayton Jaybirds at the Jaybird stadium with the ending score of 44-42.

The first quarter proved this game would be tough defensively due to the score remaining at zero going into the second quarter.

Yellowhammers beat Mustangs in first game of the season

The Rotan Yellowhammers defeated the Wilson Mustangs in their first non-district game of the season Friday night in Rotan.

The Yellowhammers won the coin toss choosing to receive the ball.

Junior No. 14 Gaberial Daniel scored the first touchdown of the night with 2:22 left in the first quarter; Senior No. 31 Jacob Cabaniss caught the ball for the extra point.

Lady Hornets fall to Wellman-Union Cats in first District game

The Aspermont Lady Hornets suffered a tough first district loss Tuesday night after finishing fourth in the Chillicothe Tournament Saturday.

The Hornets attended the Chillicothe Eagle’s Tournament Thursday and Saturday. Thursday the Hornets played the Paducah Dragons, Northside Indians, Chillicothe Eagles, and Munday Moguls. The scores of these games were totaled to determine the bracket play for Saturday.

Aspermont played a total of eight sets, winning five. They tied first with the Munday Moguls winning the tiebreaker.

Lady Hornets prevail over Bulldogs in straight sets

The Aspermont Lady Hornets look on the Moran Bulldogs Tuesday night after tough losses against the Munday Moguls and Chillicothe Eagles.

The Hornets took the Eagles in a five set match winning game one 27-25, losing game two 10-25, winning game three 25-23, and losing games four 11-25 and five 8-15, ultimately falling short to the Eagles.

Unfortunately, the hornets lost to the Moguls in game one 11-25, game two 23-25, and game three 12-25.
