Yellowhammer Offensive Improvement Not Enough for Spur

The Rotan Yellowhammers traveled to Spur Thursday evening to face the Bulldogs. Rotan’s penalties were under control, but turnovers by both teams hindered the outcome of the game. The Yellowhammers had an impressive amount of offensive yards, however their rushing and receiving yards just weren’t enough to outscore the Bulldogs of Spur.

Young Yellowhammers fall to Klondike

The Rotan Yellowhammers were on the road again this past week to face the Cougars of Klondike. Penalties were not in the Hammers’ favor making things seem to go backwards throughout the game. The young Yellowhammer team made defensive improvements from the prior week, however their offense couldn’t quiet cut it against the larger, veteran team of Klondike.

Lions improve, but fall to Perrin-Whitt By Cliff Vlasin

Photo submitted by Cliff Vlasin

In as hard-hitting a high school football game as anyone would care to see, the Roby Lions once again fell victim to mistakes, dropping a 47-6 loss to the Perrin-Whitt Pirates last Thursday night in Cisco. Three Roby fumbles led to Perrin-Whitt scores and a blocked punt let to a fourth, staking a strong Pirate team to an early and insurmountable lead.

Inexperienced Lions suffer first-game loss

Take a young, inexperienced team, toss in a long road trip, some first-game jitters, a bad start, and six offensive turnovers, and the end result was a season-opening 64-12 loss to Irion County for the Roby Lions last Friday night. Coach Steven Grigsby, in his first year as the Lions’ head coach did not let the one-sided loss bother him. “Everything is correctable,” Grigsby said after viewing film Saturday morning. “Everything we’ve seen so far, as far as play last night, is a correctable mistake. Watching it on video now, the big picture is the kids can see their mistakes, learn off those mistakes, correct those mistakes and move forward.”

Lady Yellowhammers sweep Woodson

The Lady Yellowhammers varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams faced off against the Woodson Cowgirls over the weekend in Rotan. Coach Reed burned off built up energy, pacing barefoot on the sidelines after coming off of a two set victory moments before with the junior varsity. The match opened up with members of both teams looking a little shaky, alternating rallies for the first several exchanges. The Lady Yellowhammers quickly got it together with a clockwork dig, set, and attack system that proved efficient throughout the match, and the Yellowhammers continued to pull ahead. After the Cowgirls’ attempted kill shot was stuffed by sophomore, Baily Helms, there wasn’t much wind left in the Woodson sails, bringing the final score for the first set to 25-16 in favor of the Yellowhammers.
