Lady Lions 5-0 in district play

The week started with all four teams in action against Aspermont in Roby. All four teams would come away with victories. The J.V. girls started things off with a 32-12 victory led by Emilea Cole with 18 points. Stats: Emilea Cole 18 points, 2 rebounds, 6 steals, Caitlin Benson 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, Berkley Johnson 3 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, Brynlie Johnson 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, Lauren LaCoste 1 assist, 2 steals, Mackenzie Subia 1 rebound, 2 steals, Zena Hargrove 1 rebound, Nanette Rios 1 rebound, 1 assist, 3 steals, Harlee McGlothin 1 rebound.

Yellowhammer Basketball

On January 9th the Lady Hammers scored 64 points in their 2nd district game of this season. The team defeated the Trent Lady Gorillas at Trent. The Lady Hammers jumped out to a 16-0 lead with 3:52 remaining in the first period. The Lady Gorillas had a 5-0 to close the gap by 11 points (Rotan 16 and Trent 5), but the Lady Hammers were too much for the Lady Gorillas. The final score was 64-35. Stats as follows: Denton-19 pts, 4 RBS, and 1 assist; Dunn- 14 pts (making 5/6 fouls shots for 83%), 4 RBS, 4 assists, and 2 steals; Corn-13 pts, 5 steals, 1 assist, and 1 RB; Bowen-10 pts, 10 RBS, 3 assists, and 1 steal (Bowen recorded her first double double in district play); Ballard-4 pts, 5 RBS, 1 assist, and 1 steal; Garza-2 pts, 3 steals, 2 RBS, and 3 assists; Anderle-2 pts and 2 RBS; Harris- 2 RBS and 1 assist; Gentry-2 RBS; Hurt-2 RBS… the team play led to 14 assists.

Lions and Lady Lions win Fisher County Battle part 1

The Varsity girls played Lueders-Avoca in Avoca Tuesday January 10, winning 83-25. The Lady Lions never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 33-7 lead at the end of the first period, and 64-18 at the half. The Lady Lions had 5 players in double digits lead by Hallie Edmonson with 22. Stats: Hallie Edmonson 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, Hope Lambert 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, Emily Branson 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, Kolbi Helm 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals, Peyton Shipp 10 points, 4 rebounds,3 assists, 4 steals, Kaylee Weaver 6 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, Alexis Rios 4 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, Paige Schromber 2 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, Emilea Cole 1 point, 2 rebounds, 1 steal.

Basketball.

The dictionary defines the word as a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court.

For the Lady Lions, however, basketball is more than a game with a simple definition. The court is their sanctuary. The ball is a shoulder to lean on. The hoop is a sense of reassurance. And the team? family.

Lady Lions win first district contest 61-14

Roby went to Cross Plains Tuesday January 2nd, 2018; coming away with 3 wins in 4 games. The J.V girls won 41-13.

The J.V. boys followed with a close game coming away victorious 40-37. A.J Ramirez had a double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Caleb Helm had 9 points, 7 rebounds, Brendon Barriere 8 points, 10 rebounds, Houston Harris 3 points and Laith Abu- Ajameh 2 points and 1 rebound.

Lady Hornets 2-0 in District

Kenedee Shugart scored a game-high 21 points along with teammate Jenna Berry, leading the Lady Hornets in a 69-24 victory over Trent in Friday night’s district opener. The win gave the Lady Hornets their first of the district season.

Gracie English scored 12 points and 12 rebounds earning, her first double-double of the season, while Berry totaled 11 rebounds, also earning her second double-double. The Hornets scored a total of 19 points in the first quarter. 36 by halftime.

Both Jayton teams put a win in the books

The Lady Jays beat the Spurettes over Christmas break for a district game. For the fi rst time in several years the Lady Jays had a 12 point lead on Spur by the end of the game 56-42.

Hard work and determination led the girls to win one of highly anticipated games of the season. The Lady Jays defense dominated on the court and executed their offense almost perfectly.

Lady Hammers Win Distict Opener

Coach Bell utilized each member of the Lady Yellowhammers to spark a victory over the visiting Lady Red Raiders on January 5. In the 2nd period, Denton and her teammates outscored the Lady Red Raiders 20-8 to take a 38-19 lead…a district opener for both teams. Bowen continues to lead her teammates in the rebounding category with 9, Denton led her teammates in the scoring category with 30 points and Ballard is known for her defensive role contributed 11 points...Also, Ballard led the team with assists (3). The team defeated Lueders-Avoca 68-38. Stats as follows: Denton-30 pts, 4 RBS, 2 steals, and 1 assist; Ballard- 11 pts, 4 RBS, 3 assists, and 1 steal; Corn-10 pts, 5 steals, and 3 RBS; Bowen-5 pts, 9 RBS, and 2 assists; Dunn-5 pts, 3 RBS, and 2 assists; Garza-3 pts, 3 steals, and 1 RB; Anderle-2 pts and 4 RBS; Harris-2 pts and 2 RBS; Gentry-3 steals and 1 RB…A complete team effort increases the percentage of being a team of success.

Aspermont Lady Hornets Defeat Crosbyton Chiefs

The Aspermont Lady Hornets defeated the Crosbyton Chiefs 50-36 before officially beginning their Christmas holiday.

Kenedee Shugart was highpoint for the Hornets tallying 17 points for the game, with Mady Milloy trailing just behind scoring 14 points. Gracie English and Jenna Berry each scored 7 points of their own.
