Faces & Places

We live stitch by stitch, when we're lucky. If you fixate on the big picture, the whole shebang, the overview, you miss the stitching. And maybe the stitching is crude, or it is unraveling, but if it were precise, we'd pretend that life was just fine and running like a Swiss watch. That's not helpful if, on the inside, our understanding is that life is more often a cuckoo clock with rusty gears.' ~ Anne Lamott, Stitches: A Handbook on Meaning, Hope, and Repair My husband and I are both what you might call “messy.” I wonder if the average person knows what the top of their kitchen table looks like or if it is just us? Are we the only ones with carpets that have not been vacuumed for a week and maybe are growing grass burrs?

Browsing The Texas Almanac

I’m a big fan of the Texas Almanac and get a copy every time a new edition comes out. I interviewed the editor of the publication years ago and was amazed at some of the things I learned, especially about a few Texas legends.

CORRUPTION AT ITS FINEST!! Fisher County Sheriff's Office Facebook Page must have something to hide or is this just more of SECRET SIMONS tactics because I have been so outspoken about the corruption within the department, and recently tagged them in a few Facebook posts of commissioners meetings and a comment that one their deputy’s wife made because she thought it her place to threaten me with “girl. You really don’t want me to share your details.

NO SPEECH FOR YOU

It would be a safe bet to predict that in the days following the Texas Primary Election — especially one that overturned a longstanding local official’s seat — there would be plenty of news to editorialize. While I have a healthy surplus of political opinions from the Oval Office to the county courthouses, the unknown decisions plaguing my thoughts lately are not of voters at the ballot boxes but of the nine justices in the nation’s highest court.

Letter to the Editor

Body
Dear Editor, For several weeks now, I have been reading the LETTERS TO THE EDITOR in DMC and have had some thought provoking assumptions from the submissions. I suppose the first reflection would be on the unlimited candidates that are lining up with eager anticipation for the opportunity to prosper and become the Sheriff of Fisher County over the past few decades.

Good morning to all my friends that are visiting with me this morning, it's a beautiful day in Aspermont, Texas, this morning. Joe and I have been outside all morning looking at everything and watering his onions, lettuce, and sinach. The peach tree is out of this world awesome this morning, it's so pretty bloomed out, Joe wrapped it with frost cloth last week when the temperature was getting low at night. He got T post wrapped it up good with a tarp on top and then finished wrapping it with frost cloth hopping he can save his peaches!!!! I told him when I come back I want to be Joe's peach tree, he takes such good care of it, or Mary Ellen's cat !!!!!! He laughed when I said Mary Ellen's cat, she does love her cats, she has 2 of her own, when she took them to the vet he said, 'Mary Ellen will you foster two more cats until I can find a place for them?' Of course Mary Ellen said yes, so now she has 4 four cats, then her son had to move and the new place he lives does not allow cats, dogs are okay but no cats, so guess what ? Mary Ellen now has 5 cats. I did not know you foster out pets, learned something in my old age!!!!!

How to Divide Your Personal Possessions Without Dividing the Family

Body
Dear Savvy Senior, Do you have any suggestions on divvying up my personal possessions to my kids after I’m gone without causing hard feelings or conflict? I have a lot of jewelry, art, family heirlooms and antique furniture, and four grown kids that don’t always see eye-to-eye on things.
