Let's go down memory lane, one thing about it they can't take our memories away from us what Thanksgiving with families were in past years. My greatest memories were when we all went to Roby to Grandma and Pa Finch's house and ate Thanksgiving Dinner. What fun all the kinfolks from Roby, the Goforth's, the Finch's , the Turnbull's, and the McCulloughs all came to Grandma and Pa's house to celebrate, give thanks, and visit, and what a table it was. She had a huge big round table that Pa had made her so all eight of their kids could sat at the table. A big crowd like she always fed, tables were set everything on the front porch and the back porch. What fun we all had, got to see all the cousins from everywhere. Then as I got older things changed, me being the first grandchild, and my Mother and Aunt Deedie being the oldest, well Mom and Aunt Deedie took over for Grandma, then times changed again, Carol was the oldest so they all came to Lester and Carol's house, and what fun we had. By that time all of us young ones had family, and they spread from Dallas, Ft, Worth, San Angelo, Corpus Christi, and White Sands Mexico. When Lester rebuilt our house, I said, "Honey leave that living room, dinning room, and kitchen all together that way we can feed 50 people when we need too. One Thanksgiving I will never forget, all of them were coming, all of them had called, "Carol what do we need to bring, you make the hot rolls we will do the rest!!!" Okay, two days before all of them were going to be there, my big table broke right half into!!!!! I went into panic mode, what in the world were we going to do. Well at that time Post was having their trades day, and the woodworking people from Branson, was coming down there and selling their furniture. I went to Post on Saturday bought my huge table that I still have in my house at Rotan, and give thanks for it everyday!!!!!!! I wish all of us the best Thanksgiving even though it's going to be different without all our folks just stay safe and give thanks for what we have

I decided to take a break from Margaret Sanger this week and share one of my favorite Thanksgiving poems with you. It has been a tough year for all of us. We are an exhausted one nation under God. Believe it or not, good will come from all this, and we will find it if we look for it. We are stronger than we know, more kind to each other than we have ever been, and we will get through it. And no matter how dark it may seem, God is still in control. Stay strong, be safe, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, greenly and fair in the lands of the sun, The vines of the gourd and the rich melon run, And the rock and the tree and the cottage enfold, With broad leaves all greenness and blossoms all gold, Like that which o'er Nineveh's prophet once grew, While he waited to know that his warning was true, And longed for the storm-cloud, and listened in vain For the rush of the whirlwind and red fire-rain. On the banks of the Xenil the dark Spanish maiden Comes up with the fruit of the tangled vine laden; And the Creole of Cuba laughs out to behold Through orange-leaves shining the broad spheres of gold; Yet with dearer delight from his home in the North, On the fields of his harvest the Yankee looks forth, Where crook-necks are coiling and yellow fruit shines, And the sun of September melts down on his vines.

A Thanksgiving Message to

Body
This has been a difficult year for us individually and as a people. A new virus has brought illness and death into too many families and communities. Our rural economy has struggled and the pandemic has caused even more economic hardship, particularly for retail and small business. Social restrictions and cultural strife have taxed individual and collective mental health. And yet, we are not without reasons to be thankful.

“I need peace.” Lillie pulled the shower curtain all the way across and plopped herself into the warm bath for her nightly germ purge. A typical five-year-old’s contact with desks, playground equipment, classmate hugs, and wrestling on the floor with her sister cause such a time as this.

Always Praising God

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Rom 8:28 NKJV): The bible has many examples of God taking a bad situation and using it for His purpose and glory.

Rural Texans have a lot to say about the lack of broadband service in their communities. Since we covered the topic earlier this month, many readers have emailed to share their stories and pleas for help.

Editorial; Shmeditorial... Something to lift the spirits

The Double Mountain Chronicle’s publisher asked me to write an editorial for this week’s Thanksgiving edition, and I found myself typing, then deleting, then typing something new, only to discard what I had written, often several paragraphs of work. It seemed as though the craft I enjoy had become laborious and drafting words of inspiration to fill the empty canvas of my page was escaping me.
