Overcoming a series of unforeseen obstacles, Silencio Outdoors and Big Country Outfitters will be officially welcoming customers during its Grand Opening next Saturday in Hamlin. Attendees will have the chance to check out the all the gear from deer blinds to duck calls, look over precision optics, talk guns and gunsmithing, load up on refreshments and take advantage of storewide discounts.

It is a day two years in the making for Chris Allen, the man behind Silencio Outdoors and Big Country Outfitters, although he admits he has been selling deer feeders and blinds for almost as long as they have been displayed outside the new hunting and gun store on Hamlin’s main street.

As the grand opening day grows closer, orders placed months ago are showing up and Allen and local resident and store manager, Allen Hill, are unpacking boxes of merchandise daily to get ready for next weekend’s event. “It’s coming in every day,” said Allen.

It’s an exciting time for he and his crew, having spent the last two years working toward the building’s renovation. Lengthy repair of Hwy 83 that runs down Hamlin’s main downtown street caused the first series of opening-day delays, and the grand opening was further pushed when COVID-19 began spreading through the state in March.

Allen said they have been spending so much time getting the store ready, it is going to be a welcome change to finally get to open the doors and share his passions for hunting, land management, and firearms. Opening a storefront seemed like a great way to do it and something Allen has wanted to try since he began manufacturing silencers and internally suppressed systems.

A former Marine in search of better quality equipment, Allen began exploring ways of improving firearm sound suppression. He began fabricating a variety of products and his company, Silencio Suppression Systems, grew in popularity. “It wasn't long after that I knew I wanted to do retail," said Allen.

As a landowner and rancher in McCaulley, Allen frequented Hamlin, and after thorough research and data collection, he reached out to surrounding economic development corporations, and Allen said he and the Hamlin EDC simply clicked. “Everything just came together,” said Allen. “This EDC was very proactive and progressive.”

He said the organization got behind the ideas for the store, which Allen said is going to be much more than a simple retail shop.

Silencio Outdoors and Big Country Outfitters offer an assortment of clothing and other outfitter needs including duck calls and knife sharpeners. There is also a selection of knives from custom fixed blades to all-purpose Benchmades. In addition to the deer blinds and feeders for the hunter, the store also carries a complete line of wildlife nutrition.

Allen said he hopes to provide services for not only the casual hunters that frequent the surrounding land but also for the managers of that hunting land to aid in improving the wildlife quality.

“There’s a lot of game ranches in the Big Country,” said Allen. “Folks should have access to the best feed they can get.”

And everything a person needs to hunt for quality game can be found at Silencio Outdoors and Big Country Outfitters. From rifles to shotguns to handguns, ammo, and accessories, you're going to find what you're looking for to meet your firearm needs.

Already have a gun? The store also provides fullservice gunsmithing. With welders, a paint booth, and fabrication equipment in back, Allen also plans to move a portion of the production from the Dallas facility to Hamlin.

“If it doesn't require computerized CNC, we’ll be putting some of it out here,” said Allen. Once the gunsmithing experts have tuned your trusty rifle, or you've purchased one new off the rack, they can also set you up with the perfect optics, precisioncrafted by Meopta since 1933.

So whether you're in the market for a new firearm, knife, set of binoculars, or looking to get your hands on a new deer blind, or you just want to take a look around, everyone is invited out next Saturday, September 5 to Silencio Outdoors and Big Country Outfitters. Just have a look around, swap stories and conversation, load up on refreshments, and don’t forget to check out the storewide Grand opening discounts during this one-day-only event.
