Stonewall Commissioners approve staff reductions as revenues decline

Stonewall County Commissioners pushed the deadline for making difficult financial decisions or as long as they could, and with minimal recovery in the oil and gas industry, the court reached a final trigger point on Monday and voted to approve further de-funding office personnel budgets. At least two commissioners also have agreed to contribute a portion of their annual salary to the general fund.

Fisher Co. designates school auditorium as alternate district courthouse

Although not required to commence in-person proceedings, Texas courts choosing to do so must submit a plan for conducting proceedings — including jury trials — and part of the plan is to designate an alternative location to provide social distancing during jury selection. The Fisher County Commissioners approved using the Roby High School auditorium to serve in that capacity during Monday's meeting.

First snow-day of 2021

The first meager flurries of snow began to drift to the ground on Saturday evening and accumulated several inches by morning. As the snowfall unpredictably continued to fall throughout Sunday afternoon and temperatures remained well below freezing during the night, Monday was the first official snow day of the year for many area school districts.

This property tax information is current and covers a wide range of topics, such as taxpayer remedies, exemptions and appraisals, and has information for select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons age 65 or older.

Students returned to the classroom this week, beginning the 2021 portion of the academic year. As most protocols that began the year are still in effect, local districts continue to strive for student health, safety, and educational needs, but administrators say there is little more than preparation that can be done in an evolving scenario that requires continuous reaction.
