Douglas “Mark” Fincher passed away at 62 on August 8th in the comfort of his own home in Jayton, Texas. He was receiving hospice care after having many complications following a heart surgery.

Mark was born on February 12, 1958 in Odessa, Texas to Nina and Gus Fincher. Shortly after they relocated to Jayton, Texas where he went to school and graduated from. While in high school, he was well known for being very intelligent and an amazing athlete. He competed at state track and remained in the top ten for rushing yards for many years. After graduating the class of 1976, he furthered his education at Yale University on an academic scholarship and continued playing football while working in the oilfield during the summers. He graduated from Yale earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. From there, he decided to join the military, and served from 1982 until 1986 in the 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. He lived and worked in many places throughout his life from Washington to Massachusetts and Utah to Texas, but never forgot where his home was. He came back and married Deborah Owen Fincher from Jayton in 1994. They had two children, Nicholas and Katie Fincher that were his pride and joy.

Mark is survived by his two children Nicholas and Katie; mother, Nina Fincher of Jayton, Texas; brother, David Fincher and wife Robyn of Lubbock, Texas; nephew, Dustin Fincher and his twins Harper and Knox Fincher also of Jayton, Texas; neice Olivia Fincher of Lubbock; and nephew Noah Fincher of Lubbock.

Mark is preceded in death by his brother Wes Fincher, and his father Gus.

Grave side services will be held at the cemetery in Jayton, Texas on Wednesday August 12, 2020 followed by a reception at the Jayton community center.
