Jimmie Don Murff, age 78, of Junction, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2024. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Roby.

Murff was born in the heat of the summer on May 19, 1945 in Rotan, Texas. He was raised on a small farm in Fisher County on the banks of the Clear Fork Brazos River. Murff graduated from Roby High School in 1963 and then set out on a lifetime of adventure. A free spirit at heart, Murff embraced life with joy and passion that radiated to all those around him. He was a man full of character, a strong work ethic, and a big heart.

Cowboy. Hunting guide. Storyteller. Trail boss. Guitar player. Singer. Poet. Team roper. Bucking bull contractor. Auctioneer. Helicopter pilot. Gambler. Cable man. Son. Father. Grandad. Great Grandad. Murff had many titles throughout his life but in his own words he was a lover, a fighter, a wild horse rider, and a pretty good windmill man.

For over 30 years, Murff dedicated his life to the Y.O. Ranch in Mountain Home, Texas as the ranch foreman. He was truly a jack of all trades and a master of a few. He was a legendary man with many stories and extraordinary luck. But if you asked Murff what the greatest legacy of his life was, he would say the family he helped create.

Murff is survived by the mother of his children, Sally Ann Smith Murff and their three children, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren: Lainey and Clay Simon of Junction, their children Kalea, MaKlay, and Dax; Shawn and Janel Murff of Junction, their children Ashlen and her husband Laith Bannowsky of Mountain Home, Garrett Murff and his wife Christy of Junction, Trevor Brawley and his wife April of Junction, and Meighan Brawley Hines and her husband Chris of Junction; Kacee Murff and his wife Michelle of Junction, their children Jimmy, Campbell, and Tibbs; and his nine great grandchildren Acie and Whitley Bannowsky, Molly Jo Murff, Avery and Olivia Brawley, and Corbin, Callen, Adalyn and Stratton Hines. Murff is also survived by his brother in-law Glenn Copeland, niece, and nephews, as well as his ex-wife Mary Ann Rogal.

Murff was preceded in death by his parents, James Adell Murff and Lurlene Dutton Murff of Roby, and his sister Janice Marie Copeland of Rotan.

Murff tips his hat and bids “Happy Trails” to his many dear friends.
